UBC Merit-Based Awards invite applications from international students who want to pursue undergraduate degree at University of British Columbia (UBC) Canada for academic year 2021-2022. The amount and level UBC Merit-Based Awards granted every year differ, depending on available funding.

University of British Columbia acknowledges the academic accomplishment of exceptional students from around the globe by dedicating more than $20 million yearly to awards, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid for foreign undergraduate students.

The UBC Merit-Based Awards are:

  • The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a one-time, merit-based entrance scholarship granted to eligible students when they are offered admission to UBC. Students picked for this grant show strength academically and display involvement outside of the classroom.
  • International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are granted to outstanding foreign students entering undergraduate programs at UBC. Students get their IMES when they begin their first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three extra years of study. The amount and level of these scholarships granted yearly differ, depending on available funding.

Eligibility for UBC Merit-Based Awards (Outstanding International Student Award)

To qualify forUBCMerit-Based Outstanding International Student Award, candidate must fulfill all of the following requirements below:

  • RequiredLanguageEnglish. English is the main language of instruction in UBC. All potential students are expected to exhibit a minimum level of English before they’re admitted
  • EligibleCountriesAll world countries.
  • Be fresh to UBC, incoming straight from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college).
  • Be a foreign student who will be schooling at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will have an effect on your IMES eligibility.)
  • Show outstanding academic accomplishment and intellectual promise, and impressive extracurricular and community involvement.
  • Should not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.
  • Applying to UBC by January 15 will get you automatically considered for the OIS Award.
