The Differences between Career And Job:  For most people, career and job are one and the same word used to describe whatever activity someone takes part  in to earn a living. However, a job is something you do just to earn money while a career is a series of connected employment opportunities.

In some regards, they share likeness inasmuch as they are activities that one way or another provides payments for daily sustenance. In other regards, however, they are extreme opposites especially in how they involve the executors personal interests and passions.

Important Differences Between Careers And Jobs

1. Meaning: A job can simply mean an economic role a person plays in an independent or organizational structure to earn pay. While a career has more to do with one’s distinctive path in life, leaning more to his/her passions, and involving an occupation or profession in that direction.

2. Value obtained: Usually for a job, the only value(s) obtained in exchange for one’s time and contribution is money. For a career, normally the value one seeks to obtain is far more. One should obtain fulfillment, a sense of achievement, and an achievement of a lifelong ambition.

3. Ends: A job is barely ever an end in itself. It is a means to an end. For example, if Deborah needs money to pay her fees and she takes up a job as a waiter at a restaurant as the means to earn money, which is the end. Although, if Deborah’s persisting dream was to have a wrestling career and she gets into wrestling, the activities in that career are not just a means to an end, but ends in themselves.

4. Duration: Typically, jobs are performed for way little periods than careers. Most people can and have executed many jobs for short periods of time. The same can barely be said of careers that are long-term and generally involve the greater part of a person’s lifetime.

5. Work time: The working times of most jobs are highly controlled. The famous 9 – 5s are examples. Careers on the contrary are far more tolerant with work time. The person promoting the career has the flexibility to define and redefine his time in ways that are suitable for his/her interests.

6. Innovation: This is a theory rarely spoken of in a job environment. Jobs need you to execute the same rote operations over and over again.  Any shift in this structured chain may lead to major interference in the workings of the company. In a career, on the other hand, innovations are important necessities if one is to take the lead in the wildly competitive markets.

7. Skill/Specialization: For a job, it is typically required that one own a set of skills supported by academic qualification.  One can also build a career without as much as a single major certificate. What is really needed more is how much one is skilled in their concentrated career direction.

8. Networking: Working most jobs, one is barely ever afforded the opportunity to enhance one’s network contacts. Because jobs can be very limiting. A career gives you every opportunity in the world to network aside the basic necessity to do so.

9. Special: Careers are as easy as life paths. They are opportunities to set astonishing landmarks and legacies imprinting new footprints in the huge sands of history. When someone builds a career, one builds a world of stories and the future will study these and learn.

10. Mixing of concepts: It is worth observing that some people’s jobs are basically their careers. And sometimes, a person’s career can be a series of jobs.
